Nursery
Welcome to Montgomery Primary School Nursery web page
Nursery Sessions & Times
Our Nursery places are made up of 3 class groups, Unicorn, Bear and Owl, which operate Monday - Friday, during term time only.
For morning and afternoon pupils, 15 hour funded sessions comprise of either all five morning sessions or all five afternoon sessions.
Morning Session: 8.40am - 11.40am (Unicorn Class)
Afternoon Session: 12.15pm - 3.15pm (Bear Class)
For families eligible for Extended funded hours (30 hours in total) we offer a limited number of full day spaces.
Full time spaces: 8.45am - 2.45pm (Owl Class) – Optional, payable 30 minutes extended time at end of day.
We always endeavour to give you your choice of a morning or afternoon session, or full time if eligible, but this is always subject to availability of places.
Starting Nursery is an important milestone in your child's school journey. We are an ‘Outstanding’ (Ofsted November 2025) EYFS provider, who will aim to provide a valuable pre-school experience for your child. Please see some photos of our Nursery provision:
Nursery Staff
Our Nursery classes are led by Mrs Corris (Monday-Wednesday), and by Mrs Patterson (Thursday-Friday).
They are supported by Mrs Smith (Nursery Nurse) and Mrs Price (Learning Support Assistant).
Nursery Admissions
Application forms for the Nursery can be obtained from the school office or school website. If completed digitally these can be returned via email to admin@montgomery-pri.essex.sch.uk
The application form can be accessed here: https://www.montgomery-pri.essex.sch.uk/parents/handbook
Once you have submitted your application, your child’s details will be added to the waiting list and you will be contacted when a space becomes available for your child. Children can be admitted the academic term after their third birthday.
We have one main intake each September for children who are over three and eligible for 15 hours of government funded Nursery education and/or the extended entitlement of an additional 15 hours. Please note, as our main intake of the year is in the Autumn term, Spring and Summer term spaces can only be offered if there are spaces available.
We offer morning spaces (15 hours per week), afternoon spaces (15 hours per week) and a limited number of full day spaces (30 hours per week) for those families who are entitled to additional funding.
Our Nursery follows our main school admissions policy. If we have any children leave throughout the school year, we will offer the place to the next eligible child on our waiting list.
Unfortunately, a place in our Nursery does not guarantee a place at our Primary school. A separate application will need to be made for a Reception place via Admissions at Essex County Council, at the appropriate time. https://www.essex.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/schools/admissions/primary-school-places
Funding
All of our spaces are government funded. Parents will be asked to complete funding forms prior to admission, to ensure that we receive the funds to provide a place for their child.
A majority of our Nursery spaces are government funded 15 hours spaces, which all children are eligible for from the term after their third birthday.
Working parents may be entitled to 30 hours of Nursery childcare. We offer a limited number of 30 hour spaces to families who are eligible for the 'extended entitlement' funding. You can find out more information on eligibility for this funding here: https://www.essex.gov.uk/children-young-people-and-families/early-years-and-childcare/help-childcare-costs/30-hours
For full day spaces, there is an optional 30 minute extension to the end of the school day, until 3:15pm. This is charged at a cost of £4 per day, which is invoiced monthly.
Tapestry
Tapestry is the online journal that we use in EYFS at Montgomery. It allows us to have direct communication between school and parents, building a home/school relationship and allowing parents to see the experiences that the children engage with during their school day.
Curriculum
At Nursery, your child will be learning through play using the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. The EYFS Framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy development. Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through seven areas of learning and development.
Children should mostly develop the three prime areas first. These are:
Communication and language, Physical development, Personal, social and emotional development
These prime areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning.
As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in four specific areas. These are:
Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world, Expressive arts and design
Follow what the children are learning about below: For more information on our Nursery curriculum please see the document below:
